Neurophysiology

Electrophysiology research often requires the detection of minute waveforms embedded within noise. The most common way to extract evoked potential waveforms from noise is to average many data epochs. The assumption behind this technique is that the evoked potential waveform is stationary, and will accumulate during averaging; whereas the noise is random, and will attenuate during averaging. For this assumption to hold true, a VEP data acquisition system must be precisely synchronized to the video stimulus onset. The DATAPixx and VIEWPixx hardware enable synchronization between video stimulation, audio stimulation, and analog acquisition, all with microsecond precision. This can increase the amplitude of avaraged VEPs, and decrease the number of epochs that need to be acquired.
